Nintendo held its big Switch 2 event on Wednesday, where it revealed its Switch successor and key details about the console like as its June 5 launch date, and starting price of $450. There was a lot of hype about the news, but it appears that excitement has died down.
Gamers have taken to social media to express their disappointment over the Switch 2 details. They’ve come up with plenty of reasons why they are no longer excited about the next Switch, and they’re not being shy about voicing their opinions.

Here are six reasons gamers are no longer excited about the Switch 2.
LCD not OLED
The Switch 2’s screen is an LCD, and at $450, it’s disappointing an OLED panel isn’t among the hardware upgrades. While the new Switch has a screen with 1080p resolution, HDR support and a 120fps refresh rate, the LCD still pales compared to an OLED screen. It’s very likely, however, that adding an OLED touchscreen would have made the console even more expensive, which was a move that Nintendo probably didn’t want to make. Or, perhaps the roadmap is to release an OLED version of the Switch 2 in a few years from now, as the company did with the Switch.
Not all cartridges will have the entire game
During the Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo explained that some physical games cards won’t actually have the game on them. Game-key cards will have the same look as a Switch cartridge, but they can have far less storage. This can help save on the cost to game publishers who can ship a game with little storage, requiring players to download the rest of the game themselves.
People are taking issue with is the lack of game preservation. Cartridges usually give gamers a sense of ownership: If a company’s servers go down for whatever reason, they’ll still be able to play the game that’s on the cartridge. However, game-key cards confirm that cartridges can be empty shells.

After the Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo updated its site with all of the new info about the Switch 2 and the games that were announced. One thing that surprised everyone was the price of the launch games, specifically Mario Kart World. The suggested retail price for the game is $80, which is $10 more than what most new releases cost these days.
Other Nintendo games, such as Kirby Air Riders and the Switch 2 Editions of Super Mario Party Jamboree, Kirby and the Forgotten Land and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, are also listed for $80. This increase in price, just five years after the first $70 game appeared, is concerning to gamers, as it could lead to another price jump in video games.

No Mario or Link at launch
As of right now, the launch lineup for the Switch 2 doesn’t include a new Legend of Zelda or 3D Mario release. Those two franchises are usually staples for the release of any Nintendo console, and their not being part of the launch is a put-off to some Nintendo fans. Mario Kart World being a launch game is great, but Nintendo fans want to see more Nintendo games when a console launches.
Aside from Mario Kart World, the only other Nintendo title releasing at launch is Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, which is more of a tech demo for the console, and the Switch 2 versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which are not brand new games. Donkey Kong Banaza is currently the next new Nintendo game for the Switch 2 after the June 5 launch, and it will release the following month in July.

Something not discussed in the Switch 2 Direct, but found later when reviewing the Switch 2 specs is the new console’s battery life. According to Nintendo, the Switch 2 will have 2 to 6.5 hours of battery life, while the original Switch’s battery life was between 4.5 to 9 hours, even though the Switch 2 technically does have a bigger battery.
The most likely reason the Switch 2’s battery life is less than that of the original Switch is its increased performance. Generally, better processors mean more power consumption. Nintendo notes that battery life will vary based on the game, and while it’s unclear which games will be in that two-hour range, it will likely be those featuring high-end graphics.
Switch 2 version of Switch 1 games
Another big concern for some gamers is the Switch 2 upgrades to games. Nintendo plans to charge a fee to upgrade certain Switch games to use the Switch 2’s improved graphics performance. This isn’t sitting well with people who view this as a bit of a cash grab. Sony made a similar move with its PS4 games when it launched the PS5.
Nintendo did release a list of games that would be getting free upgrades to the Switch 2, but some titles on the list aren’t the games that some would call must-have titles.
